Tax Credit for Energy Efficient windows
There are many people that are installing energy efficient windows all over their houses. These windows can benefit people in the tax area for the following year when they purchase the windows. The best thing about the option is that people can get money back for making their houses energy efficient by installing the windows that are energy efficient. The government can either pay or deduct the money from the year’s tax for that person that owns the house. So if, the person has a year’s tax of $6000 and the windows are worth $2000, then the government might reward the person by deducting $2000 from that $6000 bill. So at the end $4000 can be left to be paid for the year. That is a powerful save when we look at it on a long-term basis.
For claiming the benefit, the installation of energy conserving windows must be before the ending date of that year. Meaning for 2010 the last date to qualify was 31st December of 2010. In order to qualify for the tax credit this year, the installation must be done within the year with full records of the windows being energy efficient before the date of 31st December of 2011.
To be able to qualify for the tax credit for the year 2011, the person must show that the energy efficient windows have a U Factor and SHGC factor of below 0.30 in order to qualify for the tax reward from the government. In 2010, the values of windows were valued at thirty percent of the cost of energy efficient windows resulting in tax credit return of up to $1500. The person that wants to claim the tax benefit must file a form 5659, but that was for the 2010 year. So in order to get the right form for 2011, it will be wiser to go to the tax office and ask for the form from them.
