It’s dry out there – positively Gobi Desert like, by Somerset standards. Now the bare root season has ended I have everything crossed that everyone who has bought trees keeps them watered through this spell. It hasn’t been the first really dry spring in recent years, and seemingly reinforces the view that it’s getting more prudent to plant earlier rather than later. It has been a very good second spring quarter for us; admittedly from a tiny base (!) turnover is up around 400% year on year. If this carries on I might even make a living out of it!

Meadow Anywhere Our Meadow Anywhere seed packets are doing really well. We have now raised £4,000 for both the Bumblebee Conservation Trust and Butterfly Conservation through their sales, and I’m very grateful to Hilliers for featuring them at Chelsea. Next week I’m off to inspect the planters that will feature at their stand, which we’ve been nurturing under glass in Berkshire. We’ll be rolling out more Meadow Anywhere products in the autumn – watch this space!

Courses We are hosting two meadow days in June, one for beginners and one for the advanced meadow maker. Plus we have a great site to plonk a pond into by way of showing how it should be done – this day in May. See the website for details. Moving again… Our peripatetic lifestyle continues, but – touch wood – we think we might have found our new HQ. More anon; we’re talking about a completion date in June. Can’t wait! We’ve been house-sitting a friend, which has been interesting; lots of pony paddock and not much insect action!

Wildflower Seeds We’re continuing to expand our network of small scale suppliers. If you know anyone we’re not currently using who produces good quality wildflower seed with local provenance please let me know. We’re keen to promote our regional mixes, recent buyers of which have included Buckfast Abbey gardens, who are using our Devon Meadow mix for a new landscaping project.
